1856 The winter ice-boat service across the Northumberland Strait is sometimes risky, sometimes remarkably efficient. Two boats leave Cape Traverse at 6:30 am for Cape Tormentine. Six hours later, they're back with the mails and 10 passengers, the fastest round- trip on record.
